The history of the Brachetto is steeped in legend and fascination. An antique drink that was mentioned for the first time during the Roman empire when writers described the customs of the ‘Gallia Cisalpina’ (Gaul, on this side of the Alpes), speaking of a sweet aromatic wine ”IL VINUM ACQUENSE“ (wine of Acqui Terme), very appreciated by the patricians. This magical drink was said to have aphrodisiac powers. It was believed that Julius Cesar and later Marcus Antonius sent upfront their arrival in Egypt animal skins filled with the “vinum acquense” to the court of the beautiful Cleopatra. Cleopatra herself is said to have offered the wine to her admirers to rouse their passion. The modern Brachetto still indulges the senses as it once did with Cleopatra. A sensual and beguiling wine! The Brachetto is a semi-sparkling (frizzante) red sweet wine with a bright ruby colour. The nose is youthful and exuberant and bursts with aromas of red fruits like wild strawberry, raspberry & grape. The palate surprises with its fresh, refined and mineral notes. The crisp acidity and its fine fizz emphasize its elegance. The fruity notes are complemented by subtle hints of violet and rose. The pure finish lingers! The newest vintage 2014 is a great example of delicacy as the climatic conditions helped us to ripen the grapes slowly and to keep its subtle freshness. To be savored with sweet spices and dark chocolate! This sparkle enchants every romantic dinner! One of the most elegant dessert wines as it shows its full fragrance of red berries: an aromatic expression of Bulgarian rose and wild strawberries, the wine is an explosion of pure fruit and freshness and is best drunk young.
