Vineyards

Saphir Brut 2014 is crafted from selected crus across Champagne, with only the finest grapes from a single harvest. The terroir around Aÿ, known for its quality and unique soil composition, enhances the richness and complexity of the fruit, essential to the Champagne's depth.

Winemaking

This Champagne is made exclusively from the first pressing of predominantly Chardonnay with a little Pinot Noir, preserving its freshness and purity. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, it undergoes stabilisation at cold temperatures and light filtration before bottling. The wine ages “on lattes” (in bottle) for approximately six years, developing fine bubbles and depth through extended lees aging.

Appearance

Brilliantly clear with golden hints, showcasing the wine's maturity and richness.

Nose

Elegant aromas of red fruit are complemented by notes of brioche, hinting at the extended lees aging. Citrus peel adds a touch of brightness.

Palate

Fresh yet warm and full-bodied, the palate reveals a rounded flavour profile of ripe red fruit, underpinned by brioche and ending with a refreshing citrus finish. Its fine and persistent mousse enhances the smooth mouthfeel.

Food Pairing

Saphir Brut pairs beautifully with shellfish, crab, and lobster, complementing its refined complexity.

Background Story

Originally founded in 1923 as Baudry Lebrun & Cie in Épernay, Champagne Louis Barthélémy has roots dating back to Princess Baudry, who established the house after fleeing Moscow following the Russian Revolution. The brand underwent a modern transformation in 2002 when it was acquired by Jean-Barthélémy Chancel, a member of a winemaking family from the Rhône Valley, who revitalised the house at just 25 years old, becoming the youngest Champagne négociant of his generation.

With a unique, refined wine style, Louis Barthélémy Champagnes are known for their elegance and minimal dosage. They benefit from an extended lees aging of at least three years, which is more than double the minimum requirement in Champagne, creating depth and complexity. Jean-Barthélémy has cultivated contracts with diverse crus across the Champagne region, where he carefully selects only the best grapes for each cuvée, adding a distinct terroir-driven quality to the wines.
