Vineyards
Château Boyd-Cantenac 2014 is produced from vineyards situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux. The estate spans 17 hectares, with vines planted on deep gravel soils over clay subsoils, characteristic of the Margaux terroir. The vineyard is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, all of which contribute to the wine’s complexity and structure.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with each plot vinified separately to preserve the unique characteristics of the vineyard parcels. The wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, adding layers of spice, structure, and depth.
Appearance
Deep garnet red with a bright, clear rim.
Nose
The nose offers an elegant bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and red plum, interwoven with notes of cedar, graphite, and subtle floral undertones.
Palate
Full-bodied and well-structured, the palate showcases ripe black fruits, dark cherries, and cassis, complemented by hints of tobacco, vanilla, and a touch of earthiness. Fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity provide balance, leading to a long, refined finish with lingering notes of spice and minerality.
Food pairing
This Margaux pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or venison. It also complements mushroom-based dishes and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda.
Background story
Château Boyd-Cantenac is a historic third growth estate classified in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Founded in 1754, the estate has long been recognised for producing wines that embody the elegance and refinement of the Margaux appellation. Owned and managed by the Guillemet family since 1932, the estate is dedicated to sustainable viticulture and traditional winemaking practices, ensuring that each vintage reflects the unique character of its terroir.
The 2014 vintage benefited from a warm, dry summer and a long harvest period, resulting in wines with excellent balance, ripe fruit, and fine tannins. Now entering its peak drinking window, Château Boyd-Cantenac 2014 offers both immediate enjoyment and further ageing potential.
