Vineyards
Domaine Berthelemot's Puligny-Montrachet 2020 is sourced from selected plots within the appellation, benefiting from well-drained limestone and clay soils that enhance the wine’s precision and minerality. The 2020 growing season was marked by warm, dry conditions, leading to an early harvest. The combination of these factors resulted in a wine of excellent concentration and balance, with retained acidity to ensure longevity.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, the grapes underwent careful sorting before being gently pressed. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled oak barrels, followed by ageing for 12 months in French oak, of which approximately 25% was new. This measured use of oak contributed to structure and complexity while maintaining freshness and purity of fruit.
Appearance
Bright pale gold with a touch of green, showcasing its youthful vibrancy.
Nose
Expressive aromas of ripe citrus, green apple, and pear, interwoven with hints of white flowers, toasted almond, and a subtle mineral edge.
Palate
The palate displays a refined balance of richness and acidity, with flavours of lemon zest, white peach, and a delicate flinty character. The wine’s texture is elegant, leading to a long, crisp finish with lingering saline notes.
Food pairing
Pairs beautifully with seafood dishes such as grilled Dover sole, seared scallops, and roasted turbot. It also complements creamy poultry dishes and aged cheeses like Comté and Gruyère.
