Vineyard and winemaking
The Malbec for Kaleu is drawn from vineyards in Mendoza, where abundant sunshine and marked differences between daytime and night-time temperatures encourage ripe fruit while helping preserve acidity. Well-drained alluvial soils and carefully managed irrigation provide the conditions for an expressive, approachable style.
Made from 100% Malbec, the fruit is fermented in stainless-steel tanks and the wine is kept unoaked. This protects the grape's generous plum and bramble character, delivering a supple red intended for immediate enjoyment rather than extended cellaring.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Bright, youthful ruby-purple with violet reflections.
Nose
Juicy blackberry, redcurrant and ripe plum lead, with a lift of violet and a subtle peppery note.
Palate
Soft and rounded, with an easy flow of red and black fruit supported by gentle tannins and fresh acidity. The absence of oak keeps the flavours direct and lively, while a hint of liquorice adds interest before a clean, fruit-led finish.
Food pairing
A versatile red for beef burgers with caramelised onions, sausage and mash, aubergine parmigiana, or a steak and ale pie. It can be served lightly cool for relaxed drinking, particularly alongside chargrilled food.
Background story
Bodega Los Haroldos is part of Familia Falasco, whose wine story began in 1939 when Haroldo Santos Falasco—known as Don Lolo—sold wine from his bicycle in Chacabuco. The family named the Mendoza winery in honour of Haroldo and his son, carrying that personal history into a modern, internationally focused business.
Today the fourth generation works alongside the estate's winemaking and vineyard teams. Kaleu sits at the open, fruit-forward end of the range: an uncomplicated expression of Malbec that places Mendoza's ripe fruit and natural generosity at the centre of the glass.
