Vineyards and winemaking

L'Accent de La Roquete is a selection from old vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where galets roulés and other mixed soils store daytime warmth and support full ripening. The 2005 blend is 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, combining opulent red fruit with savoury depth.

The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, then fermented with careful temperature control and extended maceration. Maturation took place entirely in large foudres, building texture and harmony without the sweet, overt flavour of new oak.

Tasting notes

Appearance

Deep garnet with a broad brick-red rim.

Nose

Kirsch, black raspberry and dried plum are joined by liquorice, incense, tobacco and sun-warmed herbs.

Palate

Full-bodied and expansive, with mature dark fruit, firm but polished tannins and balancing acidity. Pepper, leather and garrigue develop through the middle, leaving a long finish of liquorice and savoury spice.

Food pairing

Pair with slow-roast mutton, beef shin with thyme, confit duck and white beans, or a deeply caramelised onion and aubergine tart. Its mature richness also suits a firm, well-aged Cantal.

Background story

Domaine La Roquete was developed by Daniel and Frédéric Brunier, the family behind Vieux Télégraphe. L'Accent was its small-production luxury cuvée, built around old vines and designed to express the greatest depth the property could achieve.

This product is priced and sold as an original collection of six 75cl bottles. The 2005 is fully mature, so storage and bottle variation matter: keep the collection cool and stable, stand each bottle upright before opening and decant only long enough to remove sediment.
