Vineyards
Produced from the granite slopes of Saint-Joseph in the Northern Rhône, Cuvée du Papy is a tribute to Stéphane Montez’s grandfather, crafted from old Syrah vines that capture the distinct minerality of this renowned terroir. This Saint-Joseph plot benefits from a unique location that fosters the purity and aromatic intensity characteristic of Syrah in the Rhône Valley.
Winemaking
This wine is made from 100% Syrah and follows traditional methods, including cold maceration to preserve freshness, followed by fermentation with natural yeasts. Aged for 24 months in large 600-litre demi-muid oak barrels (about one-third new oak), the wine gains depth and structure without overwhelming the fruit.
Appearance
A deep, intense ruby red with brilliant clarity.
Nose
Rich and expressive, the wine offers aromas of dark fruit like blackberries and black cherries, enhanced by floral notes of violet. Subtle earthy and spicy layers—pepper, liquorice, and a hint of vanilla—add to its complexity.
Palate
Full-bodied and finely structured, this wine reveals concentrated black fruit flavours balanced by firm tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. The granite soils lend a fine, textured mouthfeel, creating a harmonious profile that is both elegant and powerful.
Food pairing
A versatile pairing for dishes such as roast lamb, game meats, and mature hard cheeses, its complexity and balance make it an excellent choice for refined meals.
