Vineyards
The Viognier grapes for Giovin Re are cultivated in the Vignanova vineyard in Bolgheri, Tuscany. This region’s Mediterranean climate, influenced by coastal breezes, enhances the aromatic expression of Viognier, resulting in a wine with vibrant floral and fruit notes.
Winemaking
This 100% Viognier is carefully crafted, with the must split between fermentation in used, polished barriques and in cement tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in 750-litre amphorae, which impart a smooth texture and nuanced complexity, followed by an additional year in bottle for full integration.
Appearance
An intense straw yellow with a subtle golden hue, indicative of its barrel and amphora ageing.
Nose
The bouquet is broad and layered, showcasing apricot, citrus, and exotic floral notes. Aromas of spice, incense, and a hint of minerality add depth, highlighting the careful aging and expressive quality of the Viognier grape.
Palate
The 2017 vintage is round and silky, with an elegant progression of flavours from ripe apricot and white peach to soft citrus and spice. The wine has a remarkable persistence, with a balanced acidity that complements its creamy mouthfeel and leads to a lingering, complex finish.
Food Pairing
Giovin Re 2017 pairs wonderfully with savoury dishes, particularly Mediterranean cuisine, herbed poultry, and mildly spiced seafood. Its depth also complements creamy textures and richer flavours.
Background Story
Founded in 1983, Michele Satta’s winery is located in the acclaimed Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy, a place renowned for its unique terroir and the production of some of Italy's most distinguished wines. Michele Satta, originally from Varese, settled in Bolgheri to cultivate wines that express the region's Mediterranean climate and diverse soils. Over the years, he has pioneered the use of unconventional grape varieties in Bolgheri, such as Sangiovese, Syrah, and Teroldego, blending these with traditional Bordeaux varietals to create distinctive, balanced wines that showcase both local heritage and innovation.
Michele Satta’s philosophy centres on minimal intervention in both the vineyard and winery. He prioritises organic practices, hand-harvesting, and small-batch vinification to preserve the purity of each variety and terroir. His range includes both monovarietal and blended wines, reflecting the diversity of Bolgheri while maintaining a commitment to authenticity and character. The wines are aged in French oak barrels, which enhance their complexity while allowing the natural fruit expression to shine through.
