Vineyards
This Shiraz is crafted from grapes sourced from Victoria, Australia, where ancient soils bring finesse, structure, and depth. The vineyard sites, managed with sustainability in mind, yield a Shiraz with the typical eucalypt notes and a distinctive saline finish associated with the region’s terroir.
Winemaking
After a night-time harvest to maintain freshness, the grapes are quickly crushed and sent to temperature-controlled tanks, where fermentation takes place at 22-25°C. This method preserves the fine fruit character while avoiding any harsh tannins. A portion of the wine (20%) is aged in oak barrels to add complexity, while a small amount of Malbec (5%) is blended in at the end, imparting a floral lift and subtle mulberry notes to the finish.
Appearance
Bright ruby with purple hues.
Nose
Aromatic and lively, with notes of ripe red fruits, hints of violet, and a touch of bacon fat, giving the wine a savoury edge.
Palate
Juicy and dangerously drinkable, with vibrant red currant, mulberry, and a soft, silky texture. The wine’s balanced acidity and fine tannins lead to a refreshing, clean finish.
Food pairing
Ideal with Moroccan lamb tagine, roast vegetables, or hard cheeses. The wine’s structure and fruit make it versatile for pairing with a range of hearty dishes.
Background
Soldier’s Block Shiraz pays homage to the Returned Soldiers Settlement Act of 1915, which granted Australian soldiers plots of land that became some of the country’s earliest vineyards.
