Vineyards and winemaking
Il Fiore combines Chardonnay with Nascetta, a semi-aromatic native Piedmontese variety, from vineyards in the Langhe hills. Chardonnay provides orchard fruit and breadth, while Nascetta contributes floral lift, herbal detail and the fresh line that gives the blend its easy poise.
The two grapes are vinified separately in stainless-steel tanks before blending. With no oak influence, the 2024 remains focused on clean fruit, fragrance and mineral freshness, making it an expressive white for early drinking.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Pale straw yellow with bright green-gold reflections.
Nose
White peach, pear and lemon blossom are lifted by sage, fennel frond and a delicate note of white pepper.
Palate
Fresh and flowing, with citrus and stone fruit set against crisp acidity and a lightly saline edge. Chardonnay lends a gentle roundness through the middle, while Nascetta brings aromatic definition and a clean, herb-flecked finish.
Food pairing
Serve with crab and lemon linguine, grilled sea bass, courgette and goat's cheese tart, or asparagus risotto. Chill to around 9–10°C, allowing it to warm slightly in the glass so the floral and herbal notes can emerge.
Background story
Il Fiore—“The Flower”—captures Braida's habit of combining international experience with Piedmontese roots. The playing-card-inspired identity suggests different suits brought together, while the blend itself gives the region's revived Nascetta grape a graceful partnership with Chardonnay.
By developing its white-wine work alongside the Barberas for which it is renowned, the Bologna family has continued to explore the breadth of Piedmont. Sommelier's Choice has collaborated with Braida for more than twenty years and values this same balance of curiosity, precision and regional character.
