Origin and production
This vintage Armagnac originates in the 1985 harvest and was selected by Baron de Lustrac from one of its partner estates in Gascony. The house's range reaches across Bas-Armagnac and Ténarèze, prioritising casks with an individual sense of fruit, structure and place.
Traditional distillation was followed by extended oak maturation at the source property. Baron de Lustrac later chose the eau-de-vie for its vintage collection and managed its final bottling at Nogaro, allowing the character of 1985 to stand alone.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Deep amber with copper reflections and a warm, polished glow.
Nose
Prune, dried cherry and fig are brightened by orange zest, then layered with vanilla, walnut and a trace of dried flowers.
Palate
Silky and well shaped, with caramelised orchard fruit, honey and toasted nuts at the centre. Pepper, cocoa and gentle oak lend definition, while the finish is warming and balanced, returning to orange and spice.
Serving suggestions
Enjoy neat in a tulip glass, ideally after ten minutes' rest. Pair with a chocolate and orange pot, pecan pie, or an aged hard cheese, or serve alone at the close of a meal to appreciate its detail without distraction.
Background story
Baron de Lustrac specialises in searching out and preserving single-vintage Armagnac. Its network of growers provides an unusually broad archive, with the eaux-de-vie ageing at their native estates before final selection.
Bottled in Nogaro, the 1985 expresses the house's central idea that an Armagnac should retain the personality of its year. The stated vintage also gives the bottle natural significance for collectors and anyone marking a personal connection to 1985.
