Vineyards

Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2009 is produced from vineyards located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, renowned for its deep gravel soils over limestone, which provide excellent drainage and reflect heat onto the vines, aiding in optimal ripening. The estate spans 30 hectares, with vineyards ideally situated near some of Pauillac’s most prestigious properties. The vineyard is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, resulting in wines with power, complexity, and elegance.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, with each plot vinified separately to preserve the unique characteristics of the terroir. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new, adding depth and structure while maintaining a balance between fruit and oak.

Appearance

Deep ruby with garnet reflections.

Nose

The nose reveals complex aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plum, interwoven with notes of cedar, pencil shavings, and a hint of tobacco.

Palate

On the palate, this Pauillac is full-bodied and concentrated, with flavours of ripe black fruits, cassis, and hints of mocha. Fine-grained tannins provide structure, while bright acidity adds freshness. The finish is long and layered, with lingering notes of spice and minerality.

Food pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted beef, lamb, or venison. It also complements rich mushroom dishes and hard cheeses such as aged cheddar or Comté.
