Vineyards and winemaking

Château Le Raz Bergerac Sec 2025 combines 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sémillon and 10% Muscadelle. The Barde family's vineyards near Saint-Méard-de-Gurçon occupy clay-limestone hillsides and elevated sand-clay plateaux with iron-bearing subsoil, midway between Bergerac and Saint-Émilion.

After sorting and destemming, the fruit receives around 24 hours of maceration to build aroma and texture. Fermentation begins at approximately 14°C and rises gradually to 19°C, preserving Sauvignon's freshness, while maturation on the lees gives the finished wine greater breadth and length.

Tasting notes

Appearance

Bright pale yellow with vivid green reflections.

Nose

White flowers, grapefruit and ripe peach lead, with touches of mango, fresh herbs and gooseberry.

Palate

Fresh yet satisfyingly rounded, with Sauvignon's citrus drive softened by Sémillon's texture and Muscadelle's floral lift. Peach and yellow plum fill the centre, while tangy acidity and a light mineral note keep the finish precise and appetising.

Food pairing

Serve with potted shrimp, grilled goat's cheese, sea bass with salsa verde, or a Thai green chicken salad. Its combination of fragrance and acidity also works well with vibrant vegetable dishes and light Asian seasoning.

Background story

The Barde family has owned Château Le Raz since 1958, although its agricultural roots around Saint-Méard-de-Gurçon reach back for centuries. Several generations now work across the mixed estate, whose vineyards sit alongside cereals and sunflowers in the Périgord landscape.

A purpose-built two-level cellar allows the family to move fruit and wine gently by gravity. That practical design supports the aromatic delicacy of the Bergerac Sec, a traditional regional blend presented with a clean, modern sense of freshness.
