Vineyards

The Fremiets Premier Cru vineyard is located on the south-eastern slopes of Volnay in the Côte de Beaune. It benefits from a south-eastern exposure and limestone-rich soils, imparting elegance and finesse to the wines. The vines, averaging 50 years in age, are cultivated biodynamically to ensure the health of the vineyard and the expression of its unique terroir.

Winemaking

The 2009 vintage was marked by ideal weather conditions, producing fruit of exceptional ripeness and balance. Grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new, allowing for subtle oak integration while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Appearance

Deep garnet with subtle amber hues, reflecting its maturity and evolution.

Nose

The nose is elegant and layered, with aromas of dried cherries, cranberries, and rose petals, interwoven with notes of forest floor, leather, and a touch of spice., interwoven with subtle notes of spice, earth, and a touch of smoke.

Palate

On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied and silky, with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours of dried red fruits, earthy truffle, and a hint of spice are complemented by savoury undertones and a long, mineral-driven finish. The balance of freshness and depth makes it a standout example of Volnay’s trademark finesse.

Food pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, duck confit, or mushroom-based dishes such as wild mushroom risotto. It also complements soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
