Vineyard and winemaking
This Malbec is drawn from vineyards in Mendoza, including Luján de Cuyo, where bright sunshine, dry conditions and marked differences between day and night temperatures help the grapes develop ripe flavour while retaining freshness. The region’s alluvial soils and altitude suit Malbec particularly well, giving the wine generous fruit, colour and supple structure.
The grapes are vinified to preserve their varietal character, with controlled fermentation followed by around six months of oak ageing. This measured use of wood rounds the tannins and adds gentle savoury complexity without obscuring the wine’s vivid plum and berry fruit.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Deep violet-red, bright at the rim and richly coloured.
Nose
Ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry are joined by violet, sweet spice and a discreet suggestion of vanilla.
Palate
Juicy and full-flavoured, with dark berry fruit, rounded tannins and a fresh line of acidity. Subtle oak brings notes of cocoa and spice, while the finish remains smooth, balanced and fruit-led.
Food pairing
A natural partner for steak, but equally at home with slow-cooked beef, pork sausages with onion gravy, lamb burgers or a mushroom and lentil cottage pie. Its ripe fruit and soft tannins also work well with mature Cheddar or Manchego.
Background story
Nieto Senetiner traces its roots to 1888, when Italian immigrants established vineyards in Mendoza. The estate later took the names of the Nieto and Senetiner families and became one of the historic producers associated with Luján de Cuyo.
Malbec has become Argentina’s signature red variety, and this accessible expression shows why: ample fruit, a floral lift and enough structure for the table, shaped by Mendoza’s dry climate and high-altitude viticulture.
