Vineyards and winemaking

Primo Brut is a bespoke cuvée created by Nino Franco for Sommelier’s Choice, with just 4,500 bottles produced. Made entirely from Glera, it brings together components from Rustico, Riva and Grave di Stecca, drawing on vineyards across the steep hills of Valdobbiadene to combine freshness, site character and depth.

The base wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and blended before the second fermentation in pressurised tanks. Finished at around 11 grams per litre of residual sugar, the wine sits comfortably in the Brut category, balancing crisp acidity with a rounded, creamy texture.

Tasting notes

Appearance

Clear straw yellow, with a fine and persistent bead.

Nose

Fresh pear, green apple and acacia blossom are joined by lemon zest and a subtle stony note.

Palate

Bright yet gently creamy, with orchard fruit, citrus and delicate floral flavours carried by finely textured bubbles. The finish is poised and refreshing, with a quiet savoury edge that lends the cuvée extra definition.

Food pairing

Serve as an aperitif or alongside dressed crab, smoked haddock fishcakes, tempura vegetables, chicken goujons or a fresh goat’s cheese tart. Its balance also makes it an easy companion to a broad selection of canapés.

Background story

This limited cuvée represents a direct collaboration between Sommelier’s Choice and one of Valdobbiadene’s most influential families. By combining three distinctive Nino Franco expressions, Primo Brut was conceived to offer immediate freshness and charm with greater breadth than a conventional sparkling cuvée.

Nino Franco was founded by Antonio Franco in 1919. Primo Franco, the third generation, shifted the estate’s focus entirely towards Prosecco and helped bring quality-led Valdobbiadene wines into leading restaurants internationally; Silvia Franco now continues that family story.
