After acquiring an ancestral family vineyard that had existed for hundreds of years, Quinta da Boa Esperança was established by Artur Gama and his wife Eva in 2014. Their 11 hectares of organic vineyards lie in the heart of Zibreira, within the renowned Lisbon Wine Region. Benefiting from proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Montejunto Ridge, the vineyards enjoy high elevation, ample sun exposure, and maritime influences, cultivating exceptional grapes of both local and international varietals, including Fernão Pires, Arinto, Sauvignon Blanc, Alvarinho, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, and Alicante Bouschet.

Dedicated to sustainability, the Gama family adheres to organic principles, extending their eco-friendly practices to growing their own vegetables, fruit, herbs, and breeding chickens in their kitchen garden. This holistic approach ensures a harmonious coexistence with nature, reflected in their meticulous vineyard care, minimal intervention, and manual harvesting, resulting in wines that truly express the essence of their land.

Quinta da Boa Esperança Syrah 2016
Grapes: 100% Syrah

Vineyards:
The organic vineyards of Quinta da Boa Esperança are located north of Lisbon, at a higher altitude near the historic fishing town of Ericeira, which is also known as a world-class surfing destination. This geographical location benefits the vineyards with both maritime and altitude influences, contributing to the freshness and balance of the wines produced there

Winemaking:
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats. 10% of the wine undergoes aging in new French oak barrels for 18 months, which imparts added complexity and structure, with a further 12 months of bottle aging before release.

Sight:
An intense garnet colour, showcasing the wine’s concentration and depth.

Nose:
The nose reveals aromas of black fruits like blackberry and plum, with spicy undertones and hints of balsamic and floral nuances, characteristic of well-made Syrah.

Palate:
On the palate, this wine is fresh and intense, with firm tannins providing a strong backbone. The harmonious balance of fruit and spice leads to a long and satisfying finish, making this Syrah both structured and complex.

Food Match:
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled meats, rich stews, and aged cheeses. Its deep flavours and robust structure also complement hearty dishes and red meats.
