Vineyard and winemaking
The 2019 Reserva combines 40% Tempranillo, 30% Garnacha, 15% Graciano and 15% Mazuelo from Real Agrado's estate vineyards in Rioja Oriental. The blend draws together ripe fruit, fragrance, acidity and savoury structure from four classic regional varieties.
After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine matured for 18 months in French and American oak and then for at least 18 months in bottle. This extended élevage integrates the varieties and wood, creating depth while preserving the energetic character of the eastern Rioja fruit.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Bright ruby-garnet with a deep centre and slow tears.
Nose
Black plum, fig and red-fruit compote are layered with vanilla, balsamic herbs, roasted coffee and a cool mineral accent.
Palate
Full and well assembled, with ripe fruit wrapped around broad, polished tannins. Graciano and Mazuelo bring lift and savoury definition to the richer Tempranillo and Garnacha, while oak contributes cocoa and toast. The finish is structured and enduring. Stand upright before opening and allow the wine time to unfold in the glass.
Food pairing
Match with roast grouse, beef shin with root vegetables, lamb hotpot, or baked portobello mushrooms with blue cheese. Its breadth and balsamic character also complement mature Red Leicester.
Background story
Real Agrado uses only grapes from its own almost 100 hectares, an unusually direct level of control that is stated on every label through the words Viñedos en Propiedad. The vineyards lie between Aldeanueva de Ebro and Alfaro in the heart of Rioja Oriental.
The Reserva is the slower, more contemplative member of the classic range. Four varieties and extended time in both barrel and bottle create a layered Rioja designed for a leisurely meal and further development.
