Vineyards and winemaking
The Viognier for this cuvée is grown around Pujaut, on the western side of the Rhône. Warm, bright days encourage the variety’s naturally expressive fruit and floral character, while the local winds help keep the vineyards ventilated through the growing season.
After cold reception at the winery, the grapes are pressed directly and the juice is settled before fermentation. A cool fermentation lasting 10 to 15 days at around 14°C is used to retain Viognier’s fragrance, with the wine kept in tank to favour freshness, roundness and purity of fruit.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Bright, clear pale gold with a soft green-gold glint.
Nose
Generous but finely drawn, with white peach, ripe pear and apricot blossom, followed by honeysuckle and a light citrus lift.
Palate
Rounded and smooth, opening with stone fruit before a fresher line of pear and lemon comes through. The texture is supple rather than heavy, and a delicate floral note carries into a clean, lively finish.
Food pairing
Serve with pan-fried scallops and fennel, roast chicken with apricot and couscous, a mild coconut fish curry, or a pea and ricotta tart. It is equally inviting as an aperitif when lightly chilled.
Background story
Vignerons de Tavel & Lirac brings together growers from the western side of the southern Rhône, an area best known for Tavel and Lirac but also capable of producing characterful regional wines. This Viognier broadens that range with a single-variety white centred on aromatic clarity and immediate pleasure.
The cooperative’s work is rooted in its member growers and the landscapes around villages such as Pujaut. A cool, protective approach in the cellar allows the variety, rather than oak or extended maturation, to define the finished wine.
