Vineyards and winemaking

Le Rosé des Acanthes is produced from vineyards around Rochefort-du-Gard and Pujaut, on the western side of the southern Rhône. The 2022 blend brings together Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, varieties well suited to the area’s warm, sunny conditions and cooling local winds.

The rosé is made by direct pressing, followed by clarification and fermentation at a cool 14–16°C. Malolactic fermentation is avoided, preserving the wine’s bright fruit, lively acidity and clean, refreshing profile.

Tasting notes

Appearance

Bright, clear rosé with delicate salmon-pink tones.

Nose

Freshly picked strawberry and redcurrant are joined by pink grapefruit and a light touch of Mediterranean herbs.

Palate

Juicy and rounded at first, then brisk and refreshing through the middle. Red berry fruit is balanced by citrus-edged acidity, with Syrah adding a gentle peppery note to the dry, clean finish.

Food pairing

A natural choice for a summer table: try it with grilled chicken skewers, a prawn and herb couscous salad, tomato and goat’s cheese tart, or charred aubergine flatbreads with yoghurt and mint. It also makes an easy aperitif.

Background story

Vignerons de Tavel & Lirac draws on a long tradition of rosé production on the Rhône’s right bank. The original Tavel cooperative was established in the 1930s, while its 2018 union with the neighbouring Lirac cellar brought growers from two historic appellations into one organisation.

Although Le Rosé des Acanthes is a regional IGP wine rather than a Tavel cru, it benefits from the same local understanding of Grenache-led rosé. Direct pressing and cool fermentation give it a lighter, more immediate character designed for fresh, relaxed drinking.
