Vineyards
Rodiles Vendimia Seleccionada, part of their Colección Raíces, is from the 5.8ha Rodiles vineyard, located in Rioja Oriental. The Graciano vines thrive in clay-calcareous soils under a Mediterranean-influenced climate. These conditions are particularly suited to Graciano, yielding grapes with vibrant acidity, concentrated flavours, and a distinctive expression of terroir.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and meticulously sorted to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation occurs with spontaneous yeasts in wooden vats, preserving the varietal character. The wine is aged for 16 months in new American and French oak barrels, with regular racking to enhance integration and structure. Following barrel aging, the wine undergoes a minimum of 10 years of bottle maturation before release, resulting in exceptional harmony and complexity. Only 2,128 bottles of this vintage were produced.
Appearance
Deep ruby red with garnet reflections, revealing its extended aging and concentration.
Nose
An intricate bouquet of vanilla, cinnamon, and blackberry compote, complemented by notes of roasted coffee, balsamic nuances, and a touch of pastry. Spicy and herbal undertones add depth and intrigue.
Palate
The palate is elegant and refined, offering flavours of blackberries, raspberries, and dark cherries, interwoven with fine oak and a delicate sweetness. The well-structured tannins and balanced acidity provide a harmonious framework, leading to a lingering finish with hints of spice, ripe fruit, and a subtle savoury edge.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled duck breast, or wild game stews. Its complexity also complements hard cheeses like aged Manchego and dishes featuring earthy flavours such as mushroom risotto or truffle pasta.
Background story
Viñedos de Alfaro, a family-owned winery in Rioja Oriental, has been producing exceptional wines since 1974 across its 100 hectares in Alfaro and Aldeanueva de Ebro. Known for cultivating native varieties such as Graciano, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Viura, the estate practices sustainable viticulture and holds High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, reflecting its commitment to quality and environmental care.
In 2005, a state-of-the-art winery was established, enabling meticulous control from vineyard to bottle. Viñedos de Alfaro’s two ranges include the classic Real Agrado and a limited-production series of single-vineyard cuvées like Rodiles and Conde del Real Agrado, each aged in French and American oak barrels for depth and complexity. Key vineyards such as Canterabuey, Rioja’s first Viñedo Singular (Single Vineyard), and La Planas on Yerga Mountain, reflect the diversity of Rioja Oriental’s terroir.
These are authentic wines that have a sense of place. Whilst honouring the region's heritage, they are also pioneers both within Rioja and in their craft as winemakers.
