After acquiring an ancestral family vineyard that had existed for hundreds of years, Quinta da Boa Esperança was established by Artur Gama and his wife Eva in 2014. Their 11 hectares of organic vineyards lie in the heart of Zibreira, within the renowned Lisbon Wine Region. Benefiting from proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Montejunto Ridge, the vineyards enjoy high elevation, ample sun exposure, and maritime influences, cultivating exceptional grapes of both local and international varietals, including Fernão Pires, Arinto, Sauvignon Blanc, Alvarinho, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, and Alicante Bouschet.

Dedicated to sustainability, the Gama family adheres to organic principles, extending their eco-friendly practices to growing their own vegetables, fruit, herbs, and breeding chickens in their kitchen garden. This holistic approach ensures a harmonious coexistence with nature, reflected in their meticulous vineyard care, minimal intervention, and manual harvesting, resulting in wines that truly express the essence of their land.

Quinta da Boa Esperança Touriga Nacional 2018
Grapes: 100% Touriga Nacional

Vineyards:
The organic vineyards of Quinta da Boa Esperança are located north of Lisbon, at a higher altitude near the historic fishing town of Ericeira, which is also known as a world-class surfing destination. This geographical location benefits the vineyards with both maritime and altitude influences, contributing to the freshness and balance of the wines produced there

Winemaking:

This wine is crafted from 100% Touriga Nacional, grown in clay-limestone soils. The grapes undergo total destemming, followed by pre-fermentative maceration at 8°C. Fermentation is conducted in temperature-controlled lagares at 24°C to preserve the varietal’s vibrant character. A portion (10%) of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, adding layers of complexity and structure, with the remaining wine aged in the bottle for 12 months before release.

Sight:
The wine displays an intense garnet colour, reflecting its depth and concentration.

Nose:
Citrus and floral nuances dominate the bouquet, supported by aromas of fresh berries and subtle spice from the oak aging.

Palate:
On the palate, the wine is vibrant and structured, with a perfect balance between freshness and rich tannins. The oak influence is present but harmoniously integrated, leading to a long and harmonious finish. The freshness and tannic richness ensure this wine is both age-worthy and expressive of its terroir.

Food Match:
Best paired with grilled meats, hearty stews, or mature cheeses, the wine’s structure and complexity make it a versatile companion for robust dishes.
