Vineyards: Located in Preignac, within the Sauternes appellation, Château Suduiraut's vineyards span approximately 92 hectares. The terroir is characterised by sandy-clay gravel soils, which, combined with the region's unique microclimate, promote the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot), essential for producing high-quality sweet wines.

Winemaking: The 1988 vintage benefited from favourable weather conditions that encouraged noble rot. Grapes were meticulously hand-harvested in multiple passes to ensure optimal ripeness and concentration. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity and depth over time.

Appearance: Golden amber hue, indicative of its maturity and concentration.

Nose: Aromas of candied orange rind, marmalade, caramel, molasses, burnt sugar, and spice notes.

Palate: The palate is rich and luscious, with flavours of ripe apricot, honey, and a hint of vanilla. Balanced acidity provides freshness, leading to a long, satisfying finish. Still drinking well.

Food pairing: This wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, or desserts such as tarte tatin and crème brûlée. It also complements spicy Asian cuisine, offering a harmonious balance between sweetness and spice.

Background story: Château Suduiraut, classified as a Premier Cru in the 1855 classification, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century.
