Vineyards and winemaking

Made from old vine Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Mazuelo from vineyards located in the Rioja Alta region. The grapes are hand-picked, with only the ripest clusters selected for vinification. Following de-stemming and soft pressing, the must undergoes fermentation in small stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve the varietal's classic aromas. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 6 months in bottle before release, allowing for an elegant integration of flavours.

Appearance

A vibrant cherry red, showcasing the wine's youthful nature.

Nose

The bouquet is inviting, presenting aromas of ripe red fruits, with subtle hints of spice and vanilla derived from the oak aging.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is smooth and well-balanced, offering flavours of fresh red berries complemented by soft tannins and a vibrant acidity that enhances its overall structure.

Food pairing

This Rioja Crianza pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, hearty stews, and mature cheeses, making it a versatile choice for any occasion.

Background story

Alcaudón Winery, part of Clípeo Wines, is a boutique winery located in the heart of the Rioja Alta region in Spain. Led by Juan Carlos Sancha, a renowned oenologist, alongside Eduardo, Miguel, and Javier, the winery is dedicated to crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. The vineyards are situated along the lower part of the Najerilla River, nestled between the Sierra de Cantabria to the north and Sierra de la Demanda to the south. The combination of clay and limestone soil ensures the grapes have the complexity and elegance that define the wines.

The winery practices precision viticulture, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly methods. Hand-harvested grapes undergo fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by aging in both French and American oak barrels. This meticulous approach allows Alcaudón to produce wines with a balanced structure, rich aromas, and silky textures.
