Vineyards
Sourced from the Vignanova vineyard in the Bolgheri region, this Viognier expresses the Mediterranean climate’s influence, with warm sun and coastal breezes that enhance the varietal’s aromatic potential. Michele Satta, inspired by a particularly fragrant Viognier harvest, decided to craft this wine as a monovarietal to capture its unique profile.
Winemaking
This 100% Viognier undergoes a distinctive vinification process: half of the must ferments in cleaned, used barriques, and the other half in cement vats. Following fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place, and the wine is aged for 18 months in large amphorae, further refining its structure. It is then aged an additional year in the bottle to allow full integration and depth.
Appearance
Intense straw yellow with a golden shimmer, indicating maturity and richness.
Nose
The bouquet is complex, opening with ripe apricot, citrus, and subtle spices, alongside hints of incense and floral perfumes, showcasing its evolved character from extended aging.
Palate
Rich and harmonious, the palate mirrors the nose with flavours of stone fruit, particularly apricot, layered with gentle citrus and soft spice notes. The texture is smooth and persistent, providing a long, balanced finish that retains a fresh acidity despite its age.
Food Pairing
This Viognier pairs excellently with savoury and spicy dishes, such as herbed poultry, Moroccan tagine, or mildly spiced seafood, making the most of its bold yet nuanced profile.
