Braida, established by the late Giacomo Bologna, is synonymous with Barbera at its very best. Inspired by the great French wine regions he visited, notably Burgundy, Giacomo believed that Barbera could rival the world's finest wines. In 1961, he produced his first lightly effervescent Barbera. Continuing his quality journey through experimental vineyard plantings, reduced yields, and late harvesting, he caused a stir by being the first to age Barbera in small oak barrels in 1982, the original “Super Barbera”.

This led to the creation of the renowned crus: Uccellone, Bricco della Bigotta, and Ai Suma. Success and recognition were not achieved overnight, but Giacomo's sustained persistence led to Bricco dell’Uccellone being regarded as not only one of the finest wines of Barbera but one of the finest red wines of Italy.

Today, his daughter Raffaella manages the winery, and his son Giuseppe oversees
growing and production, with their spouses’ handling exports and administration.
This family operation values the environment, tradition, and heartfelt passion, resulting in wines that evoke deep emotions. Vineyards & Name Origin:
The name Il Bacialé comes from the Piedmontese word for "matchmaker" and traces back to a unique local figure who arranged marriages in the 19th century. The profession required a great deal of tact and diplomacy, as the Bacialé gathered information about potential couples and sealed their union with a kiss (bacio). The name, derived from "bacio" (kiss) → bacialé, reflects the harmonious blend of Barbera, which provides freshness and sapidity, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, which lend structure and elegance. Just as the Bacialé brought couples together, this wine masterfully marries these varietals into a balanced and expressive red.

Winemaking:
Each grape variety is vinified separately, with Barbera aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and the French varietals aged in French barriques. This dual aging process allows Barbera’s natural acidity and liveliness to shine, while the French varietals add depth, richness, and complexity to the blend.

Appearance:
The wine shows a deep ruby red colour with vibrant purple highlights, signalling its intensity and youthfulness.

Nose:
The bouquet is enticingly spicy, with aromas of blackberries, plums, and black pepper. Hints of walnuts and a faint touch of cedar add further depth, with delicate floral notes emerging as the wine opens.

Palate:
On the palate, Il Bacialé delivers a smooth, full-bodied experience. Juicy blackberries, dark cherries, and ripe forest fruits dominate, enhanced by the smooth integration of ripe tannins. The Barbera lends a lively acidity that balances the wine's richness, while the French varietals provide a silky texture and layers of spice, smoke, and earthy undertones. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of black pepper, dark chocolate, and a touch of cedar.

Food Pairing:
This versatile red pairs beautifully with roast meats, game dishes like venison or wild boar, and pasta with rich sauces. It also complements aged cheeses like Pecorino or Taleggio, making it a perfect match for hearty, savoury meals.

Aging Potential:
While drinking well now, the 2014 vintage will continue to evolve over the next 5-7 years, with the tannins softening further and allowing tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, and truffle to emerge.
