Vineyards
Gorgola Extra Brut is crafted by Cabana das Bolboretas, a boutique vineyard nestled 20 km from the Atlantic in Rías Baixas, Galicia. The vineyard benefits from the cooling maritime influence and unique soils, ideal for Albariño. With vines over 30 years old, the terroir imbues the grapes with a saline touch and minerality that reflect the vineyard’s proximity to the sea and its dedication to traditional winemaking methods.
Winemaking
Made exclusively from Albariño grapes harvested in 2015, Gorgola follows the traditional Champagne method. After a primary fermentation, the wine underwent secondary fermentation in the bottle, ageing on its lees for 26 months before being disgorged in spring 2018. Classified as ‘Extra Brut’ with a residual sugar between 3-6g, this cuvée offers a dry, elegant expression of Albariño.
Appearance
Pale straw yellow with a fine and persistent bead, showcasing its delicate bubbles.
Nose
The nose is complex, with aromas of green apple, citrus peel, and a subtle saline character, underscored by flinty minerality and hints of white flowers.
Palate
Gorgola is crisp and mineral-driven, with a signature Albariño zest that brings forth flavours of green apple, lemon, and a touch of saltiness. A refreshing acidity balances the palate, leading to a long, elegant finish with a lingering hint of sea spray.
Food pairing
Perfectly suited for pairing with fresh seafood, oysters, and shellfish, as well as light tapas, this Extra Brut enhances the natural flavours of coastal dishes.
Background
Founded by five friends passionate about artisanal winemaking, Cabana das Bolboretas produces micro-batches that prioritize quality and terroir expression. Each cuvée, including Gorgola, is limited to a few thousand bottles and is rarely available outside of select Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain. The vineyard honours both Galician and Champagne traditions, capturing the best of the Albariño grape and Galicia’s maritime influences.
