Vineyards
Château Giscours 2009 is produced from the estate’s vineyards in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate’s 80 hectares of vines are planted on the region’s characteristic deep gravel soils, with excellent drainage that promotes vine health and grape ripening. The vineyard is primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc contributing to the complexity of the blend. Sustainable farming practices are employed to preserve the biodiversity and quality of the terroir.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats, with each parcel vinified separately to preserve the unique characteristics of the vineyard plots. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, adding depth, structure, and complexity.
Appearance
Deep garnet with ruby highlights, reflecting its concentration and maturity.
Nose
The nose is expressive and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum, interwoven with notes of cedar, graphite, and subtle floral undertones.
Palate
On the palate, this Margaux is full-bodied and elegant, with flavours of dark fruit, cassis, and hints of liquorice and tobacco. Fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity provide structure, leading to a long, refined finish with lingering notes of spice and minerality.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, or game dishes. It also complements hard cheeses and rich mushroom-based recipes.
