Vineyards
Domaine Berthelemot’s Meursault 2013 is sourced from select parcels within the appellation, where limestone and clay soils create the ideal environment for Chardonnay to express richness and minerality. The 2013 growing season was characterised by a cool spring and delayed flowering, followed by a warm summer that allowed the grapes to ripen gradually. This longer maturation period resulted in wines with excellent balance, fresh acidity, and refined structure.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested at peak ripeness, the grapes were gently pressed before undergoing fermentation in temperature-controlled oak barrels. The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak, with approximately 20–25% new barrels used to impart subtle spice and complexity while preserving purity of fruit. The ageing process allowed the wine to develop its characteristic depth while retaining freshness and tension.
Appearance
A golden hue with delicate green highlights, reflecting both its evolution and retained vibrancy.
Nose
Aromas of ripe citrus, baked apple, and white peach, layered with nuances of toasted almond, honeycomb, and a distinct flinty minerality. With maturity, additional notes of hazelnut and brioche have emerged, adding complexity.
Palate
Medium to full-bodied, with a harmonious interplay of richness and freshness. Flavours of lemon curd, poached pear, and roasted nuts are supported by a firm mineral backbone. The wine’s acidity remains vibrant, contributing to a long, lingering finish with hints of spice and saline minerality.
Food pairing
Pairs beautifully with roasted monkfish, seared scallops in a beurre blanc sauce, and poultry dishes such as guinea fowl with wild mushrooms. Also an excellent match for aged cheeses like Comté or Beaufort.
