Vineyards
Château Mayne-Vieil is located in Fronsac on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Its 100% Merlot vines, some of which are over 35 years old, grow on slopes of clay and silt soil, providing structure and elegance. With sustainable vineyard practices, including green harvesting, the estate maintains low yields to enhance concentration and quality in the wines.
Winemaking
The 2018 vintage is matured primarily in stainless steel to preserve the fruit purity, with a portion aged in French oak barrels, adding complexity. This careful process helps balance the rich fruit with a refined structure typical of Fronsac wines.
Appearance
A brilliant ruby red with slight garnet reflections, indicative of its depth and concentration.
Nose
Aromas of ripe black fruits like blackberry and black cherry are layered with notes of dark roast coffee and a touch of toast from the oak.
Palate
Dense and full-bodied, this wine displays flavours of mulberry, plum, and a hint of mocha, balanced by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is smooth, with a lingering touch of spice and earthy notes.
Food pairing
Ideal with roasted meats, grilled red meats, and mature cheeses, which enhance the wine’s complexity and structure.
