Vineyards
The Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs 2005 from Domaine Geantet-Pansiot originates from the En Champs vineyard, a premier cru site located in Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. The vineyard features limestone-rich soils with a mix of clay, providing excellent drainage and imparting minerality to the wine. The vines, averaging 50 years old, produce low yields of concentrated and flavourful Pinot Noir. Sustainable vineyard practices are employed to enhance vine health and maintain the integrity of the terroir.
Winemaking
The hand-harvested grapes are carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with natural yeasts. Gentle extraction techniques, such as punch-downs, are employed to preserve the delicate nature of Pinot Noir. The wine is then aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new, adding complexity and structure while allowing the fruit to shine.
Appearance
Deep ruby red with garnet hues, showcasing its maturity.
Nose
The nose is rich and expressive, offering aromas of ripe red cherries, raspberries, and wild strawberries, interwoven with notes of rose petals, forest floor, and a touch of sweet spice.
Palate
On the palate, this Gevrey-Chambertin is full-bodied and elegant, with layers of red berries, blackcurrant, and subtle hints of truffle. Fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance, leading to a long, refined finish with lingering notes of spice and earthy undertones.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, beef Wellington, or mushroom risotto. It also complements hard cheeses like Comté or aged Gruyère.
