Vineyards
Louis Jadot Beaune Clos des Ursules 2015 comes from a walled vineyard (clos) within the premier cru site of Beaune Vignes Franches. This 2.2-hectare monopole has been exclusively owned by Louis Jadot since 1826. The vineyard's soils are rich in limestone and clay, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the wine’s elegance and minerality. The southeast-facing aspect ensures optimal sunlight exposure, allowing the Pinot Noir grapes to ripen fully.
Winemaking
The hand-harvested grapes undergo meticulous sorting to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in traditional open-top wooden vats with natural yeasts, followed by gentle punch-downs to extract colour, flavour, and tannins. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, one-third of which are new. This careful ageing process adds complexity and depth while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Appearance
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights.
Nose
Aromatic and refined, the nose reveals layers of red and black cherries, wild berries, and plum, interwoven with notes of violet, forest floor, and a hint of sweet spice.
Palate
The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, with flavours of ripe red berries, blackcurrant, and subtle earthiness. Silky tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance, leading to a long, elegant finish with hints of oak and savoury spice.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, lamb, or game dishes. It also complements mushroom-based dishes and aged cheeses, making it a versatile choice for fine dining.
Background story
Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s most respected producers, known for its dedication to crafting wines that express the unique terroir of each vineyard. The Beaune Clos des Ursules, a monopole vineyard within the premier cru Beaune Vignes Franches, has been part of the Louis Jadot portfolio since 1826. The vineyard’s name, “Clos des Ursules,” refers to the Ursuline convent that once owned the land.
