Vineyards
Tenuta San Guido’s Bolgheri Sassicaia 2010 is produced from the estate’s iconic vineyards in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany. Situated on gentle slopes at altitudes ranging from 100 to 300 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils are diverse, ranging from limestone to clay and gravel, imparting complexity and minerality to the wine. The vineyards are predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, reflecting the estate’s Bordeaux-inspired heritage.
Winemaking
The 2010 vintage was marked by a cool growing season, allowing for a long and even ripening period. The grapes were hand-harvested and meticulously sorted to ensure only the finest fruit was used. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period of around 15 days to extract colour and tannins. The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barriques, 40% of which were new, and an additional 12 months in bottle before release, ensuring perfect integration and balance.
Appearance

On the palate, this Sassicaia is full-bodied and harmonious, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity. Flavours of dark berries, cassis, and liquorice are complemented by nuances of vanilla, earthy truffle, and a hint of smokiness. The finish is long and elegant, with a persistent mineral character.

This wine pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, or wild game dishes. It also complements aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano-Reggiano, enhancing the wine’s complexity.
