Vineyards
The Pian Balbo vineyard is part of Poderi Colla’s esteemed Cascine Drago estate in Piemonte, located near Alba at an elevation of approximately 350 meters. The estate benefits from well-drained, calcareous soils ideal for Dolcetto, enhancing the grape’s structure and vibrancy. This terroir, coupled with Colla’s commitment to minimal intervention, results in a wine that reflects the authentic character of the region.
Winemaking
This wine is made from 100% Dolcetto grapes, destemmed and macerated on the skins for 5–7 days to extract colour and tannin. It undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages primarily in stainless steel (75%), with a portion maturing in French oak barrels to add subtle depth and refinement.
Appearance
Intense purple-red with violet reflections, highlighting the wine’s youthful vibrancy.
Nose
The nose reveals aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry, violet, and subtle hints of sweet spice and dried herbs, creating an inviting bouquet.
Palate
Bright and fruit-forward, the palate showcases fresh flavours of sour cherry, redcurrant, and plum, with a balanced acidity and a fine, dry tannin structure. It finishes with a pleasant savoury edge, ideal for food pairing.
Food Pairing
This Dolcetto is versatile, pairing well with Italian pasta dishes, carpaccio, grilled meats, or aged cheeses. Serving it lightly chilled accentuates its freshness.
