Vineyards
The grapes for Viagens 2015 are sourced from old vines in the Lisboa region of Portugal. The vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cooling Atlantic breezes that enhance the balance and complexity of the fruit. The clay-limestone soils contribute structure and minerality to the wine, while the maturity of the vines adds depth and concentration.
Winemaking
This wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Aragonez (Tempranillo), and Castelão, carefully vinified to highlight the complexity of the old vine fruit. After fermentation, the wine underwent ageing to refine its structure and develop additional layers of flavour. Minimal intervention ensures that the terroir is fully expressed. Decanting is recommended to avoid any natural sediment.
Appearance
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with garnet edges, reflecting its age and concentration.
Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of mature red fruits such as stewed plums and cherries, complemented by subtle notes of dried herbs, liquorice, and an earthy minerality.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is smooth and rounded, with flavours of red berries, black cherries, and hints of spice. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, offering a velvety texture. A long, elegant finish leaves lingering notes of dark fruit and a savoury undertone, showcasing the wine's maturity and complexity. It tastes a bit like Malbec!
Food pairing
Viagens 2015 pairs beautifully with lamb stew, grilled sausages, or a selection of charcuterie. Its richness and complexity also make it a perfect match for Mediterranean dishes, slow-cooked meats, or mushroom-based dishes.
