Vineyards and winemaking
Ronca di Ronca DOC Lessini Durello is made from 100% Durella grapes sourced from the slopes of Monte Calvarina in the Lessini Mountains. The grapes are hand-harvested in September and October, then placed in wooden crates for a drying period of 5 to 6 weeks. Following this, fermentation occurs in autoclave, employing daily battonage to enhance the wine's complexity and texture. This method allows for the preservation of the grape's natural characteristics while producing a vibrant sparkling wine.
Appearance
The wine presents an intense yellow colour with golden reflections, showcasing its vibrant and inviting character.
Nose
The bouquet is complex, highlighting notes of black graphite alongside fruity aromas, with hints of dried apricots and sweet spices that create an intriguing profile.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is sweet yet fresh, offering harmonious flavours of exotic and citrus fruits. Its well-rounded structure enhances the tasting experience, resulting in an elegant finish.
Food pairing
Ronca di Ronca DOC Lessini Durello pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including raw fish, shellfish, and aged cheeses. It is also traditionally served with dried biscuits and complements rich dishes like Baccalà alla Vicentina.
Background story
Antonio Fattori is a family-run estate located in Ronca, Veneto, with a winemaking heritage that dates back to the early 20th century. Following his oenology studies in Italy and France, Antonio took over the family estate in the early 1980s, alongside his brother Giovanni. In the 1990s, they began producing wines under their own label, focusing on clean, fruit-forward wines with balanced acidity. Influenced by his extensive travels, particularly to New Zealand, Antonio combines modern scientific methods with traditional practices to craft vibrant and elegant wines.
The vineyards stretch from 150 to 450 metres above sea level, nestled on the basalt slopes of the Alpone Valley, extending into the Valpolicella region. Each vine is matched to its specific microclimate, demonstrating the commitment to meticulous viticulture and minimal intervention. Antonio's philosophy emphasises continual learning, experimentation, and sustainable practices, significantly enhancing the minerality and freshness of the wines while reducing chemical use.
