Vineyards

The vineyards for Alión are located in the heart of DOC Ribera del Duero, planted exclusively with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). Situated at altitudes of 750–850 metres, the vines benefit from a continental climate with extreme diurnal temperature variations, which enhance ripeness and preserve freshness. The diverse soils, including gravel, sand, and clay-limestone, contribute to the wine's structure, depth, and complexity. Sustainable vineyard management ensures both environmental care and top-quality fruit.

Winemaking

The 1999 vintage was carefully crafted using 100% Tinto Fino grapes, hand-harvested and meticulously sorted. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal's vibrant character. The wine was aged for 14–16 months in French oak barrels, followed by additional bottle ageing before release. Alión’s dedication to minimal intervention allows the unique terroir to shine in this vintage.

Appearance

The wine exhibits a deep ruby colour with garnet edges, reflecting its evolving maturity and concentration.

Nose

An expressive and elegant bouquet of ripe blackberries, red cherries, and dried figs is complemented by notes of cedar, tobacco, and vanilla from the oak. Earthy undertones and hints of liquorice add further layers of complexity.

Palate

Rich and full-bodied, the palate offers flavours of dark berries, red currants, and plums, balanced by well-integrated tannins and refreshing acidity. Subtle notes of mocha, liquorice, and minerality enhance the long, lingering finish, which is both refined and harmonious.

Food pairing

This wine is an excellent match for slow-cooked lamb, roasted duck, or braised beef dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged Manchego cheese, wild mushroom risotto, and hearty stews, making it ideal for rich and flavourful meals.
