Vineyards
The Les Enseignères vineyard is located at the base of the Montrachet hill, just below the Grand Crus of Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. Renowned for its exceptional terroir, the vineyard features rich limestone soils and an eastern exposure, ideal for producing Chardonnay with both richness and precision. Olivier Leflaive’s careful stewardship ensures the highest quality fruit is cultivated from this prestigious site.
Winemaking
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted. Fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, imparting subtle oak nuances while preserving the purity of the fruit. The wine is aged for 12 months on fine lees in oak barrels, followed by an additional 5 months in stainless steel tanks to harmonize the flavours and enhance freshness. Minimal intervention allows the wine to express the unique character of its terroir.
Appearance
Pale gold with green highlights, exuding elegance and vibrancy.
Nose
The bouquet is layered and enticing, with aromas of ripe citrus fruits, white flowers, and a hint of honey. Notes of toasted almonds, subtle spice, and a touch of minerality add complexity to the aromatic profile.
Palate
Full-bodied and opulent, the wine reveals flavours of lemon curd, green apple, and ripe peach, balanced by a lively acidity. A gentle oak influence contributes hints of vanilla and brioche, leading to a long, refined finish with a saline edge and a whisper of smokiness.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with seared scallops, butter-basted sole, or creamy poultry dishes. It also complements mature cheeses such as Brie or Gruyère and dishes featuring truffles or wild mushrooms.
