Vineyards and winemaking

Amarone Classico Terre Di San Zeno is a blend of 65% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, and indigenous varieties like Molinara and Dindarella. The grapes are sourced from the prestigious vineyards of Corteforte in the Fumane valley, which are characterized by volcanic soils that enhance the wine's depth and complexity. The vineyard’s optimal microclimate, with warm days and cool nights, allows for ideal ripening conditions.

The grapes undergo meticulous selection and are then dried using the appassimento method for up to four months, concentrating the sugars and intensifying the flavours. Fermentation occurs in the winter months, followed by pressing and aging in small oak casks. This careful process, combined with traditional techniques, ensures the wine retains its distinctive fruit profile and structure.

Appearance

This Amarone displays an intense deep red garnet colour with tinges of orange, showcasing its maturity and richness.

Nose

The aromatic profile is complex and inviting, offering ripe black cherries, wild berries, and hints of liquorice and spices. The bouquet reveals a rich intensity with a persistent finish.

Palate

On the palate, this Amarone is full-bodied and structured, showcasing rich flavours of ripe dark fruit and spices from the oak ageing. The balance of acidity and silky texture leads to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of dark chocolate and a touch of smokiness.

Food pairing

This Amarone pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, and rich savoury dishes. It is also an excellent choice when served with aged cheeses. To fully appreciate its characteristics, serve at room temperature in large, round crystal glasses.

Background story

Corteforte, established in 1989 by Carlo Maria Cerutti, is located in the historically significant Fumane valley, north of Verona. The estate originated in the early 1400s as a fortified structure with four towers, evolving over time into a noble residence that now features a boutique hotel, restaurant, and winery, all surrounded by 3 hectares of premium vineyard plots.

No expense was spared in creating Corteforte. The winery employs organic and sustainable practices and boasts a vast underground storage area for extensive bottle ageing, despite its modest annual production of around 20,000 bottles. The estate features a variety of barrel sizes and a wide range of winemaking techniques that focus on the dried grape process. Critics regard Corteforte as a jewel in the crown of the Amarone region, but the true essence of its wines lies in their authenticity, finesse, and character. From the impressive Valpolicella Ripasso to the exemplary single vineyard Amarones, Corteforte continues to set a high standard for excellence in the Amarone region.
