Vineyards

Tenuta Patrizia Lamborghini, set in the hills of Umbria near Lake Trasimeno, enjoys a unique terroir with mineral-rich clay soils and Mediterranean influences. This environment is ideal for the estate’s Sangiovese and Merlot vines, producing grapes with balanced ripeness and complex flavours.

Winemaking

The 2001 Campoleone is a classic blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot, a pairing that captures the Italian character of Sangiovese and the elegance of Merlot. Vinification begins with separate fermentations, enhancing each variety's unique attributes. The wine then ages in French oak, adding depth and gentle vanilla notes to the concentrated fruit profile. Following malolactic fermentation, it’s refined further, giving it the power and structure ideal for long-term ageing.

Appearance

A deep, garnet-red colour with a luminous, refined quality indicative of careful aging.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet is rich and inviting, showcasing black cherry, plum, and dark chocolate alongside earthy notes of tobacco, cedar, and sweet spices. These complex aromas evolve with time in the glass, revealing hints of leather and herbs.

Palate

On the palate, Campoleone 2001 is bold and layered, with flavours of ripe blackberries, plum, and baking spices. Silky tannins and a harmonious structure lead to a long, lingering finish with hints of dark chocolate and truffle. This wine has retained its depth and elegance, making it an ideal choice for cellaring, with peak drinking potential for the next decade.

Food Pairing

This wine pairs exquisitely with roasted red meats, game, and robust Italian dishes such as wild mushroom risotto or aged cheeses, making the most of its layered and complex profile.
