A Vega Sicilia Estate
Vineyards
The vineyards for Alión are situated in the heart of DOC Ribera del Duero, primarily planted with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). The vines thrive at altitudes of 750–850 metres, where the continental climate with extreme temperature variations promotes optimal ripening. The soils are diverse, ranging from gravel and sand to clay-limestone, contributing to the wine's complexity and elegance. All vineyards are managed sustainably to ensure the health of the soil and the quality of the fruit.
Winemaking
Crafted exclusively from 100% Tinto Fino, the grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected. After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for 14–16 months in French oak barrels, followed by further refinement in the bottle before release. Alión’s winemaking philosophy combines tradition with modern techniques to create wines with power, finesse, and a true expression of DOC Ribera del Duero.
Appearance
The wine displays a deep garnet colour with ruby highlights, reflecting its concentration and maturity.
Nose
A complex bouquet of ripe blackberries and cherries is layered with notes of liquorice, cedar, and warm spices. Subtle hints of vanilla and mocha from the oak ageing add depth and sophistication.
Palate
Full-bodied and structured, the palate reveals concentrated dark fruit flavours, such as blackcurrants and plums, supported by well-integrated tannins. The vibrant acidity provides freshness, while the long, velvety finish offers nuances of chocolate, tobacco, and a touch of mineral elegance.
Food pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted meats, slow-cooked lamb, or a rich beef stew. It also complements mature Manchego cheese and earthy dishes like wild mushroom risotto.
