Vineyards
Limestone and clay-rich soils. Biodynamic practices, including lunar pruning and organic treatments, help enhance the wine’s expression of terroir, delivering vibrant fruit and refined structure.
Winemaking
Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, followed by 18 months of aging in large oak barrels and additional bottle maturation. These traditional methods bring balance and depth to the wine, preserving its varietal purity without filtration or stabilisation.
Appearance
A beautiful garnet hue with brick-like reflections.
Nose
Elegant aromas of rose petals, red berries, and subtle spice, with earthy undertones that reflect the Piedmont terroir.
Palate
Medium to full-bodied with structured tannins and balanced acidity. Flavours of ripe cherries, raspberries, and hints of truffle unfold on the palate, leading to a long, complex finish with refined minerality.
Food pairing
Pairs exceptionally with truffle-based dishes, roasted meats, or hearty pasta with mushroom sauces. Its depth and structure also complement aged cheeses.
Background story
Founded by sommelier Stefano Campaniello and Piedmont farmer Gabriele Testa in 2013, Morra Gabriele is a young but ambitious winery rooted in Barbaresco’s winemaking tradition. During a visit to Campamac Osteria in Piedmont, Tim was recommended a Barbaresco by the sommelier, Stefano, who happened to also be the wine’s producer. Impressed by the quality, he initiated a partnership to import Morra Gabriele’s wines immediately.
Stefano and Gabriele’s approach is rooted in sustainable and biodynamic practices, with lunar pruning cycles and natural infusions for vine health. In the winery, Stefano employs spontaneous fermentation, concrete tanks, and oak aging without filtration or stabilisation, yielding wines that capture Barbaresco’s distinctive terroir and tradition. This artisanal, low-intervention approach has made Morra Gabriele a rising star in Piedmont, celebrated for wines that suit fine dining and reflect the estate's commitment to authenticity.
