Vineyards
This wine benefits from the area’s unique limestone and clay soils, which contribute to its depth and structure. The biodynamic approach in the vineyard includes pruning according to lunar cycles and using organic treatments, enhancing both soil health and fruit purity.
Winemaking
The grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks to retain the freshness of the fruit. The wine is neither filtered nor clarified, allowing it to preserve the full expression of its terroir and vintage. This natural approach results in a Barbera with authenticity and structure, well-suited for aging.
Appearance
A brilliant ruby red with depth and clarity.
Nose
The wine opens with aromas of cherry, plum, and red berries, complemented by subtle earthy notes that reveal its Piedmont origins.
Palate
Full-bodied and elegant, the Barbera offers vibrant red fruit flavours balanced by smooth tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long, with hints of savoury minerality that add complexity.
Food pairing
This Barbera pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, or classic Italian dishes such as pasta with a rich tomato sauce. It also complements mature cheeses, enhancing the wine’s fruit and depth.
Background story
Founded by sommelier Stefano Campaniello and Piedmont farmer Gabriele Testa in 2013, Morra Gabriele is a young but ambitious winery rooted in Barbaresco’s winemaking tradition. During a visit to Campamac Osteria in Piedmont, Tim was recommended a Barbaresco by the sommelier, Stefano, who happened to also be the wine’s producer. Impressed by the quality, he initiated a partnership to import Morra Gabriele’s wines immediately.
Stefano and Gabriele’s approach is rooted in sustainable and biodynamic practices, with lunar pruning cycles and natural infusions for vine health. In the winery, Stefano employs spontaneous fermentation, concrete tanks, and oak aging without filtration or stabilisation, yielding wines that capture Barbaresco’s distinctive terroir and tradition. This artisanal, low-intervention approach has made Morra Gabriele a rising star in Piedmont, celebrated for wines that suit fine dining and reflect the estate's commitment to authenticity.
