Origin and production
Produced from the 1964 harvest, this vintage Armagnac was sourced by Baron de Lustrac from its network of traditional estates in Gascony. The house selects across Bas-Armagnac and Ténarèze, two areas whose contrasting soils can bring either fine fragrance or firmer, more structured eaux-de-vie.
After distillation, the spirit matured slowly in oak at its native property before being chosen for the Baron de Lustrac collection and prepared for bottling in Nogaro. Decades of cask development have softened the alcohol and drawn fruit, spice and wood into a mature whole.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Rich amber-brown with copper-gold flashes and slow, even legs.
Nose
Prune and dried fig are layered with violet, vanilla, toasted almond and a restrained note of old oak.
Palate
Velvety and rounded, opening with caramelised nuts and honey before cinnamon, dried fruit and gentle tobacco appear. The structure remains composed and warming, with a lingering finish of walnut and sweet spice.
Serving suggestions
Best served neat in a small tulip glass, with time and air rather than added heat. Pair with a dark chocolate and hazelnut tart, a few Medjool dates, or mature Comté, or enjoy it unaccompanied as a slow digestif.
Background story
Baron de Lustrac specialises in single-vintage Armagnac, working with selected growers rather than presenting every year through a standard house blend. This approach allows variations in harvest, grape and estate character to remain visible in the finished spirit.
The 1964 is both a mature Gascon eau-de-vie and a natural marker for a birthday or anniversary year. It is supplied in a cardboard sleeve, preserving the presentation detail included with this bottle.
