Origin and production
Château de Bordeneuve produced this vintage from its 1995 harvest in Bas-Armagnac. The estate's Ugni Blanc and Baco vines occupy fine sandy ground near Eauze, where the combination of grape and soil favours fragrance, finesse and slow development.
The base wine was distilled once through the property's copper still, then laid down in French oak within the family's traditional cellars. Separate ageing protects the integrity of the year, allowing this bottling to reflect its own development rather than a predetermined house blend.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Deep amber-copper with a bright gold rim and a clear, glossy appearance.
Nose
Dried apricot, golden raisin and orange oil unfold into acacia honey, cedar, almond and a light dusting of cocoa.
Palate
Silky and well structured, with caramelised peach and hazelnut carried by measured warmth. Vanilla, cinnamon and gentle wood spice frame the fruit, leading to a smooth, persistent finish with a final lift of citrus.
Serving suggestions
Serve neat at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass. Try it with poached pear and ginger, dark chocolate studded with orange, or mature Cheddar; avoid overfilling the glass so the aromas can gather.
Background story
Baron de Sigognac is the best-known expression of the Guasch family's work at Domaine de Bordeneuve. Complete estate control—from vine to alembic to cellar—supports a style grounded in traditional Bas-Armagnac practice.
Vintage bottlings are released from a deep collection rather than on a fixed annual timetable. The 1995 therefore represents both an individual harvest and the outcome of patient judgement about when its fruit, oak and mature spice have reached harmony.
