Origin and production
Camut 6 Ans is made at Domaine de Semainville in the Pays d'Auge from apples grown in the family's traditional high-stem orchards. Around 25 historic varieties contribute a balance of sweetness, bitterness and acidity, and only estate fruit is used.
The freshly pressed juice ferments slowly in wood for 10–11 months before the dry cider is twice distilled in wood-fired copper pot stills. The spirit then matures for a minimum of six years in seasoned oak, with casks deliberately left partly empty to encourage gentle oxidation and natural reduction.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Bright golden amber with youthful clarity and pale copper highlights.
Nose
Fresh red apple, pear skin and citrus zest are joined by white blossom, vanilla and a delicate suggestion of wood smoke.
Palate
Lively and precise, with crisp apple moving into compote, light caramel and baking spice. Oak remains discreet, giving shape without obscuring the fruit, and the finish is clean, warming and persistent.
Serving suggestions
Enjoy neat as a digestif, with a splash of cool water, or in a carefully made Sidecar. At the table it suits an apple and Cheddar tart, Normandy-style pork, or a simple tarte fine aux pommes.
Background story
The Camut family has tended apples at Domaine de Semainville since the nineteenth century, with successive generations refining a singular estate style. Their work begins in the orchard and remains unusually traditional through long cider fermentation and wood-fired double distillation.
The six-year-old is the freshest entry point to the range, retaining orchard brightness while already showing the roundness that marks the family's older Calvados. It offers a clear view of Camut's methods before extended oak ageing takes a stronger role.
