Vineyards and winemaking
Mâcon-Fuissé is produced solely from Chardonnay grown within the commune of Fuissé, south-west of Mâcon. Its varied clay-limestone soils and warm Mâconnais climate give the fruit both ripeness and the natural acidity needed to keep the wine composed.
The wine is fermented using a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels, preserving freshness while adding discreet complexity. Time on the lees contributes a rounded texture and savoury depth without overwhelming the vineyard's apple, citrus and mineral character.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Clear pale gold with fine green highlights.
Nose
Green apple and lemon lead into baked pear, white blossom and a delicate note of buttered almond.
Palate
Rounded yet fresh, with baked apple, citrus and a touch of honey balanced by energetic acidity. Fine spice and limestone notes run through the mid-palate, leaving a clean, well-proportioned finish.
Food pairing
Try with trout amandine, chicken with tarragon and crème fraîche, a ham and parsley terrine, or baked courgettes with ricotta and herbs. Its balance of fruit and freshness also suits simply grilled sea bass.
Background story
Domaine de Pouilly is based in Solutré-Pouilly at the heart of the Mâconnais. Brothers Vincent and Pierre-Antoine Besson represent the family's fifth generation of winegrowers, following a line that began with their grandfather Pétrus in 1933.
The domaine covers approximately 20 hectares across numerous parcels in Pouilly-Fuissé and neighbouring appellations. Many vines are more than 50 years old, and the brothers combine sustainable cultivation with close personal oversight from vineyard to bottle. Mâcon-Fuissé sits between their regional Chardonnay and the greater concentration of Pouilly-Fuissé, making this 2024 a particularly clear expression of the family's local knowledge.
