Vineyards and winemaking
This 2025 Vinho Verde is a blend of Arinto, Trajadura and Loureiro grown at Quinta de Santiago’s family estate in Cortes. The vineyards lie within the cool, green landscape of northern Portugal, where Atlantic influence and granitic soils favour fragrant, naturally refreshing white wines.
The varieties are fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature to preserve their individual characters: Arinto brings acidity, Trajadura gentle body and Loureiro floral lift. The result is light in alcohol, bright in flavour and designed for youthful drinking.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Very pale lemon with green reflections and a delicate natural prickle.
Nose
Lime leaf, green apple and white blossom lead, with hints of nectarine and fresh herbs.
Palate
Light, crisp and high in energy, combining lemon and green orchard fruit with racy acidity and a subtle saline streak. A faint spritz sharpens the clean, stony finish and makes the wine especially refreshing.
Food pairing
Ideal with mussels, salt-and-pepper squid, fish tacos, cucumber salad or lightly spiced prawn noodles. It also makes an excellent aperitif with simple olives and almonds.
Background story
Quinta de Santiago has been in the family since 1899. The modern winery grew from Mariazinha Santiago’s wish that the family should stop selling all its grapes and instead bottle wines that carried their own name and reflected their land.
Today Joana Santiago leads the estate with a focus on native varieties, sustainability and low-intervention winemaking. This three-grape Vinho Verde is the most immediately accessible expression of that approach: bright, regional and made for relaxed sharing.
