Vineyards and winemaking
Vinha Centenária Ref. P29/P21 is centred on Touriga Nacional from Parcela 29, planted on schist at approximately 170 to 210 metres above sea level, and combined with the century-old field blend of Parcela 21. The perfume and composure of P29 meet the depth and varietal complexity of old vines that include numerous traditional red and white Douro grapes.
The parcels were handled with precision and matured in French oak for 12 months, allowing the wine to gain texture while retaining its floral character and sense of freshness. The 2018 vintage is poised and layered, with ripe fruit, juicy tannins and the fine, stony line associated with Quinta Nova's schist soils.

Appearance
Deep ruby-garnet with a clear, gently evolving rim.
Nose
Violet, blackberry and black cherry are followed by liquorice, cocoa nib, dried thyme and finely drawn graphite.
Palate
Elegant yet assured, with succulent black fruit, fresh acidity and precise, polished tannins. Touriga Nacional gives aromatic lift and a flowing texture, while P21 contributes savoury spice and additional depth. The finish is persistent, floral and schist-driven. As with any mature wine, bottle variation is possible; stand upright before opening, pour with care and assess before deciding whether to decant.
Food pairing
Serve with pink duck breast and blackberry sauce, herb-crusted rack of lamb, beef fillet with shallots, or braised puy lentils with roasted root vegetables. A small portion of aged Comté also complements its floral perfume and fine tannins.
Background story
Quinta Nova's detailed understanding of its vineyard began with pioneering Portuguese viticultural studies undertaken between 1979 and 1981. Touriga Nacional was among the varieties planted and assessed separately, laying the foundation for the estate's modern parcel-led approach.
Reference P29/P21 sets the refined expression of Touriga Nacional from P29 against the historic diversity of P21, a century-old mixed vineyard of exceptional complexity. It forms a complementary pair with P28/P21: one emphasising fragrance and elegance, the other a firmer, more austere expression of Tinta Roriz.
