Vineyards and winemaking
Quinta Nova Unoaked Tinto is drawn from estate vineyards in the Douro Valley, where steep schist slopes and the region's dry continental climate give the grapes concentration while preserving a distinct mineral freshness. The blend brings together Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, varieties chosen for their complementary fruit, structure and aromatic lift.
The 2021 vintage was vinified without oak so that the character of the fruit and vineyard remains at the forefront. Fermentation and maturation in stainless steel retain the wine's vivid berry flavours, supple texture and clean, energetic finish.

Appearance
Deep ruby-purple with a bright, youthful rim.
Nose
Fresh blackberry, black cherry and blueberry are joined by violet, crushed herbs and a subtle stony note.
Palate
Juicy and medium-bodied, with dark berry fruit framed by lively acidity and fine, gently grippy tannins. Touriga Nacional brings perfume and definition, Touriga Franca adds softness, while Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão contribute savoury structure and freshness. The finish is dry, mineral and appetising.
Food pairing
Its unoaked freshness makes this a versatile red for grilled lamb cutlets, pork and fennel sausages, roast aubergine with lentils, tomato-rich bean stews or a cheeseboard featuring Caerphilly and young Cheddar. Serve lightly cool to emphasise the bright fruit.
Background story
Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo has more than two centuries of history in the Douro and includes an eighteenth-century cellar within an estate first recorded during the region's original demarcation. The Amorim family has stewarded the property since 1999, combining detailed parcel study with a clear respect for its historic landscape.
Unoaked was created to show a direct and contemporary expression of Douro red varieties without the flavour or texture of barrel ageing. It offers an approachable introduction to the estate while retaining the concentration, schist-derived character and sense of place associated with Quinta Nova.
